I finally got the balls to make that modification to my ham radio today. It involved breaking two diodes off the circuit board, so you can see why I was hesitant about doing it. My bro-in-law has a pair of those “family radios,” like the Motorola Talkabouts, only a different brand (I forget which). So now I can use my ham radio to talk to him and the rest of our hunting party this weekend. I can also transmit on police and military frequencies, so I’ll have to be damned careful not to fuck up and get myself in trouble. If I remember right, I can get a huge fine and possible prison time for transmitting on those frequencies.
