ZDNN reported today that, by copying a site’s meta tag, you can misrepresent your own site on search engines like AltaVista (story here). Oh wait, that’s not news. At least it’s not new news. Since the meta tag was invented, porn sites have been misrepresenting themselves on search engines. It seems like everytime I’m searching for an mp3, I come up with quite a few porn sites in the search results. The article also talks about people actually being redirected to porn sites when clicking on a legitimate-looking search engine link, but doesn’t explain how. It almost sounds like a non-techie wrote the article, so I doubt people are actually being redirected, but if they were, that would be cool to know how. š
