Nine Mile Canyon, Round Two

I returned to Nine Mile Canyon on Sunday–the second trip in as many weeks–to find some rock art I’d missed the previous weekend. I found the Owl Panel this time. It turns out last time I was one canyon too far over. I was surprised by how many other petroglyphs were in the same area as the Owl Panel, and I spent a good chunk of time in the area.

Next I stopped at the Echo Site to look for a petroglyph panel that I had somehow not seen earlier. It turned out to be ridiculously obvious and I’m still not sure how I failed to see it before.

I continued toward Cottonwood Canyon and stopped at a few random sites along the way. It began raining when I got to the parking spot for the Great Hunt Panel, so I jogged down the new (since I was last there) gravel path to the rock art panel, snapped two photos, then hurried back to the Jeep.

I drove to near the end of the road along Nine Mile Canyon and saw a couple of petroglyph panels near the road, plus several way up high that will have to wait until better weather. The rain wasn’t letting up so I turned around and headed for home. As I ascended the canyon the rain turned to snow, and I ran hail and heavy rain on the way back to Price.
