Fehr Lake Trail

September 8, 2024

I spent Saturday hiking Bald and Murdock Mountains, and on Sunday morning I got up early so I could play Wordle and a few other games, then I drove about three miles to the Fehr Lake trailhead so I could attend my friend Chris’ hiking/geocaching get-together. I was the first person to meet Chris at the trailhead and then others slowly trickled in until it was time to hit the trail.

In about 15 minutes we were already at Fehr Lake. We left the official trail and found a geocache on the west side of the lake. I didn’t feel too bad about disturbing a group camping along the shore because, well, they should expect company on a weekend near a popular lake.

We continued past Fehr Lake, regained the official trail, and hiked to Shepard Lake where we found another geocache. We rested there for a while before moving on.

Next we hiked a short distance to Hoover Lake and found yet another geocache. Chris turned back then–the trail was steeper than she expected and there was a good climb back up to the trailhead–and I followed the group to one more geocache. Then they planned to find yet another geocache but I was getting tired so I turned around and hiked back solo, stopping for a lunch break along the way.

I retraced my route, going on the east side of Fehr Lake this time, and got back to the trailhead after only about 4.3 miles. There I found Chris and Daphne sitting a a picnic table. I joined them for a while and chatted, then hopped in the truck for the 3+ hour drive home. I enjoyed the company on this hike and hope to join more of these outings in the future.
