While camping for a few days with some friends on their property in the Left Fork of Hobble Creek, I took some time on Saturday to hike the Wardsworth Creek trail. I got an early start to beat the heat, and when I arrived at the trailhead there were only three other vehicles there. I passed three small groups going the opposite direction along the lower portion of the trail, then did’t see anybody else until I had turned around and was well on my way back down the trail.

The lower part of the trail was wide and well-traveled. There were several creek crossings that proved to be a challenge, at least if I wanted to keep my shoes dry! I had passed up several geocaches but at the trail junction at Clark Hollow I decided to stop for one. I found the container but the lid was missing and the contents were soaked, so I signed the outside of the container with a Sharpie and put it back.

I hiked another half-mile beyond that and had to cross the creek a couple more times, including over a huge log jam that spanned over the creek. The trail in this section was narrower and not as well-traveled. I turned around at 11:00 AM so I could finish the hike before it got too hot, and made it back to the trailhead in just under an hour. I was surprised how pleasant the hike was, and if I’m back in the area when the weather is cooler I think I’ll return and hike farther up the trail.
